Nebius Group has secured $700 million through a private placement, attracting investors such as Nvidia, Accel, and Orbis Investments. The AI infrastructure firm, founded by former Yandex CEO Arkady Volozh, aims to enhance its capabilities to serve artificial intelligence developers globally.
The funding will enable Nebius to accelerate its investments in GPU clusters, cloud platforms, and other AI development tools. Having already committed $1 billion in investments by mid-2025, the firm hinted at potential further expansion. With more than half its clientele based in the United States, Nebius is leasing data centre space in Kansas City, Missouri, and exploring additional growth opportunities.
As part of the placement, Nebius issued 33,333,334 Class A shares at $21 per share, reflecting a slight premium to recent Nasdaq trading averages. The financing was oversubscribed, leading to a revised annualised revenue projection of $750 million to $1 billion by the end of 2025.
Nebius also announced it would no longer pursue a previously approved share buyback, citing strong investor interest and favourable market conditions. Chairman John Boynton stated that shareholders who wished to exit had ample opportunity to do so at competitive prices.

Trade tensions between the USA and China are escalating in the semiconductor sector, as four of the top Chinese industry associations warned against purchasing US chips, claiming they are ‘no longer safe’ and they threaten national security principles. South Korean AI chipmakers Rebellions and Sapeon Korea have officially merged, forming a new company valued at approximately USD 928 million. The combined entity will continue under the name “Rebellions,” led by CEO Sunghyun Park. Five Canadian news companies have launched a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming its AI systems violate copyright laws. Torstar, Postmedia, The Globe and Mail, The Canadian Press, and CBC/Radio-Canada allege the company uses their journalism without permission or compensation. The legal filing, made in Ontario’s superior court, seeks damages and a permanent ban on OpenAI using their materials unlawfully.
The companies argue that OpenAI has deliberately appropriated their intellectual property for commercial purposes. Italy’s data protection authority has issued a warning to publisher GEDI over sharing personal data with OpenAI, citing potential violations of EU privacy regulations. GEDI, part of the Agnelli family’s Exor group, entered into a strategic partnership with OpenAI in September to provide Italian-language content for ChatGPT users.
Under the deal, OpenAI’schatbot would feature GEDI’s attributed content and links, while its journalism could refine the AI’s accuracy. The regulator highlighted that such data requires careful handling and warned of potential sanctions if EU rules are breached.
GEDI clarified that the partnership does not involve selling personal data and noted that the project is still under review. Cybersecurity expert Dr. Jan Collie highlighted how AI tools are weaponised by criminals to clone well-known figures’ voices and mannerisms, making scams appear authentic.
