The Global Digital Compact was proposed by the UN Secretary-General in September 2021 as part of his report Our Common Agenda. The Compact is expected to “outline shared principles for an open, free and secure digital future for all”, covering issues such as digital connectivity, Internet fragmentation, the usage of data, the application of human rights online and the promotion of a trustworthy Internet with accountability criteria. The Compact is expected to be agreed upon in a multistakeholder process at the Summit of the Future in September 2023.
