10th Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals
The 2025 STI Forum will focus on the theme: ‘Advancing sustainable, inclusive, and evidence-based, science and technology solutions and innovations for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs for leaving no one behind.’ As in previous editions, the theme aligns with that of the upcoming High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), scheduled from 14 to 23 July 2025. This alignment ensures coherence and continuity between the technical insights generated at the STI Forum and the broader policy deliberations of the HLPF.
This year’s Forum will spotlight the contribution of STI to five specific SDGs under review at the 2025 HLPF: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
The two-day programme will feature high-level panels, interactive dialogues, and side events that bring together UN agencies, governments, the private sector, academia, and civil society to explore solutions that are inclusive, impactful, and evidence-based.
Preceding the official two-day programme is the Action Day on 6 May, held under the theme Advancing the Global Digital Compact. This day will focus on translating the commitments of the Global Digital Compact (GDC) into concrete actions for science, technology, and innovation in support of the SDGs.
The forum is convened under the auspices of the President of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), His Excellency Mr Bob Rae. Appointed by the ECOSOC President to guide this year’s discussions, the Forum will be co-chaired by H.E. Mr Omar Hilale, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the UN, and H.E. Ms Elina Kalkku, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Finland to the UN. The Forum is organised by the UN interagency task team on STI for the SDGs (IATT), convened by UN-DESA and UNCTAD, in collaboration with the 10-Member Group of high-level experts appointed by the UN Secretary-General.
