UCC asks Google to block opposition Youtube channels

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) wrote to Google, seeking the takedown or blocking of Youtube channels linked to opposition candidate Robert Kyangulani, popularly known as Bobi Wine. News reports indicate that the UCC letter lists 17 channels which it claims were used to mobilise riots that resulted in the loss of lives and property in Uganda. The UCC argues that the continued broadcasts by the channels constitutes violation of Ugandan laws.

Uganda is in election season where incumbent Yoweri Museveni and Bobi Wine are top contenders. An article by the Anadolu Agency indicates that in response to the letter, Google has sought more justifiable reasons for the UCC request.
