Trump’s inaccurate medical claims about COVID-19 sow confusion about treatment.
In a press conference, President Trump shared some inaccurate medical claims regarding the Coronavirus. He suggested the idea of looking into the use of disinfectants and sunlight as treatment. According to Politifact, an American fact-checking agency, he did not, strictly speaking, claim they were actual cures, but rather consulted officials of the White House Coronavirus task force whether they could be used as potential cures. Trump himself claimed that he was being sarcastic and his words were misinterpreted. Nevertheless, his claims were taken seriously by many and some companies and state agencies have, as a precautionary measure, issued warnings about consuming disinfectants.
