Nigeria Federal Government approves IDs for IDPs

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a policy for digital identity for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The country has a large number of IDPs in 36 states, with states like Borno having over 1.49 million IDPs. Issuing digital ID to IDPs will address issues associated with a lack of documentation, which denies IDPs access to education, employment, travel, and other opportunities. The policy will be implemented by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
