IPv6 deployment increasing, says Internet Society report

According to a new report published by the Internet Society, the deployment of Internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) is increasing around the world, with over 9 million domain names and 23% of all networks advertise IPv6 connectivity. The report also provides an overview of IPv6 stats published by various entities: According to Google, 37 countries use IPv6 for 5-50% of their interactions with Google services. Akamai reports several countries whose IPv6 traffic exceeds 15%: Belgium, Greece, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, India, Luxembourg, Estonia, and Brazil. The IPv4 Market Group expects IPv6 user count to exceed 50% world-wide in 2019, and with that, the start of the decline of the IPv4 address market. The report concludes by stating that ‘from an adoption perspective, IPv6 has now emerged from the “Innovators” and “Early Adoption” stages, and is moving into the “Early Majority”’.
