Hong Kong launches new digital ID platform

Hong Kong’s Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) has introduced a centralised identity platform known as iAM Smart. Residents can download the iAM Smart app free of charge. The app enables authentication of a person against their official Hong Kong national identity card details. It can also be used to fill common forms required for government services as well as to digital signing for both public and commercial transactions. Once a person installs the app, they can also receive notifications for example on bills. Currently, there are about 20 services on the app, but these are expected to increase to 110 by within 2021.
