US Senate approves legislation for combating online child abuse

A US Senate has approved a legislation for combating online child abuse and exploitation. This revised version of the Earn IT Act, proposes to end the “blanket liability protection” for online platforms that fail to protect child abuse online. Supporters of the bill opine that the bill would encourage companies to crack down on online child abuse and exploitation, however critics argue that the bill could result in constitutional and privacy problems including free speech.

However the bill to come into effect it would need to be approved by the full Senate and House of Representatives.
