US Congress questions Facebook, Google and Twitter on their role in US election meddling

Facebook, Google and Twitter testified before Congress on how their platforms were used by Russian actors to influence the 2016 US presidential election. The platforms were asked about their internal investigations into Russian accounts, the number of accounts that have been used, the number of people who were affected, the share of bot accounts, and the value of the advertisements that were paid for. One of the regulatory initiatives brought forward to prevent future election interference is the Honest Ads Act. Tech companies have criticised the proposal, as they are concerned about the possibility of being held accountable for the content posted on their platforms by third parties.
