UNESCO celebrates International Year of Indigenous Languages

UNESCO celebrated the 2019 International Year of Indigenous Languages with a three-day International Conference from 4 to 6 December 2019. The event aimed to contribute to the promotion of human rights and fundamental freedoms of all language, to ensure users access to information and knowledge in their own languages. The narrative of the concept note stressed out tree tracks designed to bring out measures for the promotion of linguistic diversity, multilingual internet and language technologies, with special focus on Indigenous languages. The tree tracks were:

·       Multilingualism for building knowledge societies

·       Applying language technologies for linguistic diversity and multilingualism

·       Addressing the digital divide and multilingualism
