The metaverse’s first court hearing took place in Columbia

In Columbia, the metaverse’s debut in court took place as Magistrate María Victoria Quiñones Triana held a hearing using Metas Horizon Workrooms. The event was livestreamed on YouTube and allowed participants to join via video call if they lacked headsets. Official credentials were distributed before the session for identifying each party involved.

Colombian courts held one of the first judicial hearings using metaverse technology. María Victoria Quiñones Triana, the Magdalena court’s magistrate, accepted the plaintiff’s request to hold the hearing in Meta’s Horizon Workrooms. The hearing was also live streamed on YouTube, while participants without access to VR headsets could participate via a standard video call. Before the hearing began, the judge said the credentials were given to the parties’ official email addresses to carry out each person’s identification.
