At the Third General Assembly of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO), Saudi Arabia announced the launch of the ‘Generative Artificial Intelligence for All’ initiative. This multilateral effort seeks to enhance digital cooperation and strengthen AI capabilities within the DCO member states.

Led by the Saudi Data and Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) and operating under the umbrella of the International Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Ethics (ICAIRE), the initiative is envisioned to play a key role in advancing AI research, development, and ethical governance. Emphasising AI ethics and fostering capacity development in the field are key objectives of this multilateral effort.

The expected outcomes of the initiative include:

  • Democratizing AI technology to ensure its availability to all segments of society, fostering innovation, and enhancing digital inclusiveness and prosperity;
  • Supporting research, improving, and governing policies for generative AI across member states;
  • Raising awareness of the ethics of AI and supporting capacity development in the field of AI.

Why does it matter?

The ‘Generative Artificial Intelligence for All’ initiative seamlessly aligns with Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Digital Cooperation Organization’s mission. More importantly, it places a significant emphasis on promoting Generative Artificial Intelligence for the greater global benefit. This initiative is also a part of Saudi Arabia’s broader ambition to emerge as a global leader in the digital and AI sectors.
