Nigeria moves to consolidate bank issued identities
The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is requiring members of the public whose national identification numbers (NIN) were generated through a bank verification number (BVN) to verify their NIN by visiting NIMC offices. The country has been in the process of issuing NIN to citizens and residents. In 2020, the NIMC gave a directive requiring all SIM cards to be registered to a NIN. The NIMC is now asking those whose NIN were generated from BVN to get their BVN-NIN verified to enable integration with the NIMC mobile app.
