Netherlands: the first country with a nationwide LoRa network for IoT

KPN, a Dutch telecom company, has announced the rollout of a LoRa network throughout the Netherlands, making the country the first one in the world to have a nationwide LoRa network for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The network, available across the country since late June, makes it simple to develop smart applications and to optimize processes and services, says KPN. There are already 1.5 million contracted IoT devices that will be connected to the LoRa network, and the company expects the number to grow rapidly. KPN explains that ‘LoRa is a new network for IoT solutions and a supplement to the existing 2G, 3G and 4G networks. The network eliminates significant barriers (cost, consumption and energy) so that numerous devices can be connected to the internet.’
