Journalists in Brazil attacked on Press Freedom day

Brazilian journalists were attacked, insulted, and expelled from a demonstration in Brasilia in support of the Jair Bolsonaro government and against the Congress and the Federal Supreme Court on World Press Freedom Day, said a media post.

The newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo’s photographer , fell to the ground as his ladder was knocked off while taking Bolsonaro’s pictures at the event. He was surrounded by supporters of the president, who attacked him. A driver for the newspaper, who was with the team, was also attacked with a blow to the calf. 

A reporter for Poder360 who also covered the event was kicked and was harassed several times, according to his publication.

Some of the journalists had to be escorted and removed from the demonstration in a military police vehicle.
