Internet shutdown in Togo

Togo experienced an Internet shutdown on 6-11 September. Internet services from most ISPs, especially in the capital Lome, were inaccessible. 3G Internet services as well as SMS services from the two telecom providers in Togo were also down during this period. The Internet shutdown led to a social media blackout. News sources have linked the shutdown with protests against the government of Togo. Thousands of people are protesting against the Gnassingbe family dynasty that have been ruling Togo for the past 50 years, calling on the President to step down.
