Facebook confirms 419 millions phone numbers exposed

According to TechCrunch, 419 millions phone numbers of Facebook users have been exposed on an online server without password protection. Facebook confirmed the report and indicated an investigation was ongoing to identify when and by whom the database was compiled. Now offline, the dataset included the data of 133 million users in the USA, 18 million in the UK, and 50 million in Vietnam. According to the Guardian, the records were likely amassed using a tool that Facebook disabled in April 2018 in the aftermath of the Cambridge Analytica controversy. RTE also details that the databases listed Facebook user IDs, phone numbers, genders and geographical locations.
