Facebook asks Australian government to postpone implementation of news media bargaining code
Facebook has required the Australian government to postpone the implementation of the news bargaining code by six months in order to give online platforms time to make deals with news outlets to pay for content. The code provides that online platforms and search engines must pay fees to news publishers in order to post their content online. Under the new regulation, if news publishers and online platforms cannot reach an agreement on the amount to be paid, an arbiter must make the final decision.
