World Bank provides more funding for Eastern Caribbean telecommunications development
The World Bank Board funded Caribbean Regional Communications Infrastructure Program (CARCIP) that was developed as part of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Digital Agenda 2025 and is currently underway in Grenada, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has received an additional injection of financing of US$11.9 million. The program has already implemented undersea fiber optic cables between the three nations and is in the midst of terrestrial fiber rollout. Over half of office buildings in each island have been brought online along with more than fifty percent of schools on two islands. This additional financing will facilitate the completion of the regional broadband network, applicable training and implementation support as well as loans for incubation of entrepreneurial activities and the development of an ICT-enabled services industry.
