WhatsApp modifies its privacy policy in EU following historical fine

According to the BBC, WhatsApp has announced it was amending its privacy policy for the EU and the UK, following the recent fine €225m issued by the Irish data protection authority – the second-largest since the entry into force of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Though WhatsApp is appealing against the fine, the European version of the privacy policy is already evolving and will take effect immediately. Though not reshaping fundamentally its practices, the new privacy policy provides more information about the collection and processing of users’ information, and how WhatsApp works with Meta, the parent company for WhatsApp.
