USA and India to deepen cooperation in space and cyberspace as defence domains

At the fourth US-India 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue held in Washington DC on 11 April, the USA and India committed to ‘deepen cooperation in new defence domains such as space and cyberspace’. The two countries signed a Space Situational Awareness arrangement to pave the way towards advanced cooperation in space, including in terms of information sharing. They also committed to launching new defence base exchanges between the US Space Command and India’s Defense Space Agency. In addition, the USA and India agreed to establish an inaugural Defense Artificial Intelligence Dialogue. This dialogue builds on the US-India Artificial Intelligence initiative launched in 2021 as a ‘platform [for the partners] to discuss opportunities for bilateral AI R&D collaboration, share ideas for developing an AI workforce, and recommend modes and mechanisms for catalyzing the partnerships’.
