US parents file class action against TikTok

Parents and legal guardians of children have filed a class action suit against ByteDance the parent company of TikTok claiming the company is illegally collecting children’s data.

The lawsuit claims Musical.ly (bought by ByteDance in 2017 and later merged with TikTok in 2018) the app has collected children’s personally identifiable information (PII) without consent, violating the US Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
