US government gives green light to the IANA stewardship transition proposal

The National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) in the US government has announced that it has reviewed the IANA stewardship transition proposal and found that it is in line with the criteria the Administration outlined in March 2014, ‘when it stated its intent to transition the U.S. Government’s stewardship role for the Internet domain name system (DNS) technical functions, known as the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) functions’. According to the assessment report, ‘NTIA finds that the IANA Stewardship Transition Proposal meets the criteria necessary to complete the long-promised privatization of the IANA functions’.
