US: FTC reaches settlement with Weight Watchers over children’s data

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Department of Justice in the U.S have reached a settlement with weight loss company WW International Inc., formerly known as Weight Watchers (WW),  over violation of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). WW is alleged to have collected information of children without parental consent. As per the settlement order WW will have  to delete personal information collected from children, any algorithm that was used in relation to the data  and pay a $1.5 million penalty.
