UNESCO conference addresses online linguistic diversity
UNESCO’s 5th International Workshop on Spoken Language Technologies for Under-resourced Languages, which took place from 9 to 12 May in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, addressed the importance of promoting multilingualism online. The conference brought together researchers in the area of language documentation and preservation. Furthermore, it presented a new UNESCO initiative, ‘Roadmap to World’s Endangered Languages’, which calls for the creation of a Global Task Force on Multilingualism with an emphasis on cyberspace.
