UN General Assembly holds informal briefing on the Impact of the Rapid Technological Change in the Achievement of the SDGs

An informal briefing by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) tackled the impact of rapid technological change on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In her statement, María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés, President of the UN General Assembly noted that “we must evaluate which are the technological changes that will allow us to accelerate the fulfillment of the goals of the 2030 Agenda and those that could jeopardize its achievement.” During the informal and plenary discussion, the UN Member States further reinforced the importance of cooperation to deploy technology to enhance livelihoods and overcome the entailed security and development challenges. Additionally, the EU introduced a statement on the vision of the EU member states on how technology could support sustainable development and economic growth.
