Uber will not change drivers’ employment status in California
Uber will not change the way it engages drivers in California, where a landmark employment legislation concerning gig workers has just passed. According to Forbes, the ride hailing company stated that it is ready to dispute in courts any legal challenge around the new legislation. However, Uber declared to have put aside $30 million to cope with any potential worker’s new benefits. The company believes that its main business is providing technology to connect drivers and riders among other services, such as food delivery. Moreover, it considers that even with the new legislation Uber drivers will still pass the ABC test as independent contractors and not employees.
