Uber issued permit to test self-driving car on public roads

Uber was issued a permit that allows the company to put autonomous cars back on public roads in California. The permit was issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles nearly two years after the company stepped back from its testing program following a fatal crash that killed a pedestrian in Arizona. At the time, Uber was testing driverless cars in the Phoenix area, Toronto, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco. Uber also began mapping Washington, D.C.. The company plans to start testing its autonomous car in the city before the end of 2020. Three cars manually driven by trained employees will be mapping the city. These cars will collect data by using a sensor wing with cameras and a spinning radar.
