Uber defends independent forms of work in future of work summit

The ride-hailing company hosted “The Future of Work” conference in Cape Town to discuss the main developments related to employment. In the occasion, Uber’s public policy manager Guy Levin supported that there is a general urge for flexible work within the digital economy. He also sustained that digital technologies bring up broad opportunities for revenue generation, including for those who need it the most. The company claimed that independent work is the core of online platforms and individuals should consider being a part of it as partners instead of employees. Ultimately, this model would entitle workers to make their living on their own terms.
