UAE launches AI strategy and appoints minister for AI
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have revealed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy whose main aim is to support the development of AI solutions for several vital sectors in the country, such as transportation, healthcare, space exploration, smart consumption, water, technology, education, and agriculture. The strategy puts emphasis on how AI can support employees in the public and private sector, and envisions the development of a legal framework for ensuring safe standards for the working relationship between human and machine. The release of the strategy was followed by the appointment of a State Minister for Artificial Intelligence. The Minister for AI is part of a new cabinet whose task is to ‘make the UAE the world’s best prepared for AI and other advanced technologies’, according to the country’s vice-president and prime minister Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktou.
