Turkey deploys locally developed digital ID system
Turkey has operationalised its locally developed digital ID system, becoming the seventh country glocally to locally develop a biometric data system. Turkish Minister of Internal Affairs, Süleyman Soylu, announced on Twitter that the system had already processed over 45,000 sets. The system currently identifies and authenticates fingerprints, and there are plans to introduce other biometrics such as palm prints, face recognition, voice and iris recognition.
While this system will integrate all of Turkey’s biometric data, the country already applies biometric identification and verification in migration management. The system is developed by local firm Biyoteksan, in conjunction with Havelsan.
