Thai police uncovers child sexual abuse ring in the pretext of child modelling agency

Recently the the Thai police uncovered 500,000 child sexual abuse images while investigating an international child sex abuse ring operating from Thailand and Australia. The accused operated a child sexual abuse ring in the garb of a child modelling agency called “Nene” to gain access to young boys.  The accused would approach the victims in their schools  or approach their families, gaining their trust and offering them work opportunities in the entertainment industry. Behind this facade he built up databases of obscene images which he would sell to local as well as international buyers online.

This case brings to the forefront the growing cases of online child abuse in Thailand. Experts opine that online child abuse cases went up by 40% during the COVID-19 lockdown making children more vulnerable.
