Telegram fined in Brazil for not complying with court order

Telegram has been fined in Brazil for not complying with a court order to suspend accounts spreading disinformation and hate speech, resulting in a penalty of 1.2 million reais ($236,527).

Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes fined messaging app Telegram for failing to comply with a court order that had instructed the suspension of accounts of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro who were spreading disinformation and hate speech. The fine amounts to 1.2 million reais (US$236,527). Telegram did not immediately respond to Reuters on their request to comment.
