Technological progress and SDGs are discussed at UN event

The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and Second Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations organised a joint meeting on “The Future of Everything – Sustainable Development in the Age of Rapid Technological Change”.  In her opening speech, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed, warned that despite profound potential for accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), if technological progress is not managed well, it risks exacerbating existing inequalities. The joint meeting consisted of a three-hour multistakeholder discussion focused on best practices and new initiatives and on how policy-makers and their partners can harness the benefits of progress in science and technology, while minimizing their unintended, negative consequences. During the event, Sophia, a humanoid robot, had brief interaction with UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed.
