Study shows that cloud adoption is going mainstream

A study conducted by IDC and sponsored by Cisco confirms that the adoption of cloud computing is continuously increasing. According to the study, which is based on a survey conducted across 6100 organisations of various sizes in 31 countries, 68% of the organisations are using some forms of cloud computing as part of their activities. The increase adoption of cloud is said to be fueled by cloud native applications such as security applications, and the accelerated growth of cloud-based Internet of Things applications. However, most of the organisations (69%) do not have mature cloud strategies, and only 3% have optimized cloud strategies in place. The study argues that this is due to factors such as skill gaps, lack of well-defined  roadmaps, and legally siloed organisational structures.
