State of the World’s Girls Report finds 58% of girls have been harassed and abused online
A survey in the State of the World’s Girls Report, conducted by Plan International in twenty two countries, highlights that 58% respondents had faced online abuse on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, and TikTok.
The online harassment experienced by the surveyed girls were of different natures, ranging from threats of sexual violence, physical harm, harassment due to their identities, racist comments, stalking, and abusive and insulting language.
Of the respondents, 42% identified themselves as LGBTIQ+, 14% identified themselves as having a disability, and 37% identified themselves as an ethnic minority.
