Stark increase of privacy complaints submitted in Australia last year

According to ZDNet, the Australian data protection authority announced that the number of privacy complaints made by Australians increased by 12% in 2018-19. The Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) noted that the increase was driven by privacy practices of the finance industry, government entities, health service providers, the telecom industry, retail, and online services. Although 3,306 complaints were made during the year, only 2,920 have been finalized, suggesting the urgent need for more staffing resources according to the authority’s director.
