Spam botnet that enslaved around 4000 Linux computers was shut down

Mumblehard, a botnet that took over around 4000 Linux computers and made them send spam across the Internet for over a year, was finally shut down, thanks to joint efforts by the security firm ESET, CyberPolice of Ukraine, and CyS Centrum. As described by Ars Technica, the bonnet was highly complex, as it ‘used a custom “packer” to conceal the Perl-based source code that made it run, a backdoor that gave attackers persistent access, and a mail daemon that was able to send large volumes of spam’.
