Scammers sending texts about the UK’s government energy scheme to steal banking information

Scammers have been sending texts to UK citizens about the UK’s government energy rebates to steal personal information. These scam messages inform citizens that they have been eligible for the government’s £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme to steal their banking information.

Reports have been received by the UK’s consumer association Which? over text messages that contain fraudulent links to apply for the UK’s government £400 Energy Bills Support Scheme. Essentially, these text messages inform people that they are eligible for the Energy Bills Support Scheme, invite them to click on a link, and ask them to provide their banking details. Which? stated that any individuals who have been scammed should get in touch with their banks and file a report with Action Fraud.
