Saudi open-source government software to contribute US$1.3bn to Kingdom’s digital economy

The Saudi Digital Government Authority (DGA) governor Ahmed Mohammed Al Suwaiyan announced that the open-source government software is expected to contribute US$1.3 billion to Saudi Arabia’s digital economy between 2023 to 2026 which will, in turn, create 2,000 job opportunities. This is in line with the open-source government software strategy which was launched by the DGA in November 2021. This further corresponds to the importance of emerging technologies and the rapid digital transformation reinforced by the COVID-19 crisis. To this aim, Saudi Arabia aims at bolstering the digital economy by localizing talent and new communications and information technology firms in the country.
