Open Connectivity Foundation established to set standards for the Internet of Things.

Major tech companies such as Intel, Samsung, and Microsoft have joined together with other industry players and academic institutions to form the Open Connectivity Foundation, a new entity set to create standards for the Internet of Things (IoT). Officially launched on 19 February, the foundation aims to ‘help unify IoT standards so that companies and developers can create IoT solutions and devices that work seamlessly together’. To this end, the new body plans to develop a specification and sponsor an open source project to ensure secure interoperability between IoT connected devices.
