New York caps licenses for ride-hail services
New York became the first major American city to cap new vehicle licenses for ride-hail services, such as Uber and Lyft. The legislation passed overwhelmingly by the City Council and will cap the number of vehicles for a year while the city conducts impact studies on the booming industry. It will also allow New York to set a minimum wage for drivers.
