Japan’s education ministry has released new guidelines highlighting the importance of students comprehending AI and its integration into schools. The guidelines emphasise the need for students to understand the characteristics of AI, including its advantages and disadvantages, such as personal information leakages and copyright infringement.

They also promote the use of AI in English learning and encourage its integration into group activities to enhance discussion depth. The guidelines stress the importance of AI literacy among teachers and suggest using AI-generated fake information as teaching materials for fact-checking.

They also recommend using AI tools to reduce teachers’ workloads and improve teaching practices. The guidelines address concerns about personal information leakage and propose collaboration with AI companies to improve products for educational use.

The ministry plans to produce videos about generative AI learning in collaboration with NHK. The guidelines are intended for implementation in public schools and other educational institutions, and they will be updated based on feedback and the development of related rules.
