New Rules for audio-visual media services adopted by the European Parliament
The European Parliament adopted new rules for audio-visual media services in order to better protect children from violence, terrorism, hatred and harmful advertising. Online platforms will be under the responsibility to create transparent and effective mechanisms that allow users to report content as well as to react quickly when problematic content is flagged. Moreover, MEPs also established that advertising cannot take up more than 20% of the daily broadcasting period and that in order to support cultural diversity, at least 30% of content in the video-on-demand platforms’ catalogues should be European.
