New platform launched by Meta and NCMEC to prevent the spread of intimate images online

Meta, in partnership with the U.S. National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), launched an online database, dubbed Take It Down, with an aim to proactively prevent children’s intimate images from spreading online.

By using a numerical code associated with an image or video rather than the file itself, users will be able to submit ‘digital fingerprints’ of known child abuse materials. Other participating sites will keep and use the code to look for indications that the same image or video has been posted online elsewhere.
