Myanmar re-imposes Internet shutdown in conflict-ravaged Rakhine, Chin states

According to a news report, Myanmar has again imposed a total shutdown of the Internet in the Western states of Rakhine and Chin after partially restoring Internet in the two conflict-ravaged states some five months ago.

Telenor Group, the Norwegian mobile operator with operations in Myanmar in a statement, said the Transport and Communications ministry of Myanmar (MoTC) had ordered them and other mobile operators to stop all mobile Internet traffic in five townships in Rakhine and Chin states.

According to the report, the MoTC cited security requirements and public interest as the basis for the order of the shutdown which is to last for three months.
