Ministry seeks public feedback on national disability policy 

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in India is seeking public feedback on the revision of the national disability policy. Key updates include interventions in disability prevention, education, healthcare, social security, and accessibility. Feedback on the draft policy is open until July 9, 2022.

 The Government of India has an existing national policy on disability that was drafted in 2006, in 2007 it signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. In 2016, Parliament enacted the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

To further improve the lives and the rights of persons with disabilities, a committee headed by Anjali Bhawra, secretary, the Department of Empowerment of PwD, was formed to revise the existing policy.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is inviting feedback from the public on the new draft national policy on persons with disabilities (PwD), which proposes interventions in disability prevention, education, healthcare, social security and accessibility. The deadline for feedback is 9th July 2022.
