MasterCard confirms large data breach of one of its loyalty programs
MasterCard has confirmed reports of a data breach affecting one of its loyalty program in Germany. Though the program has now been shut down, the data of more than 90.000 users was leaked in an Excel file listing names, email addresses and card numbers. According to Solutions numériques, program members had complained in the past weeks that their vouchers had been used by unknown third parties, or simply invalidated. MasterCard officially notified the Belgian and German data protection authorities of the data breach affected ‘affected a large number of data subjects.’
