Kenya adopts new data protection law

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta signed a new data protection law, which sets out restrictions on how personal data can be handled, stored and shared by companies and public organizations. The new law intends to comply with European Union legal standards and introduce a new independent authority responsible for investigating privacy infringements. According to Reuters, Kenya has until now attracted international firms, but the lack of safeguards on personal data has held it back from its full potential.
